Envoy Air to expand MRO base at Springfield, MO
Envoy Air (MQ, Dallas/Fort Worth) – a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group – has announced plans to expand its aircraft maintenance operations in Missouri by moving into a new and bigger hangar at Springfield, MO. This expansion will allow Envoy to maintain larger and more modern aircraft, such as E175s, according to a statement by the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Envoy has maintained smaller aircraft from a hangar in the general aviation area since 2004. The new hangar will be owned by the airport and leased to Envoy. It will have space for three aircraft inside, room for more aircraft outside, dedicated areas for parts storage, training, employee parking, and administration. “The new facility will allow scheduled overnight maintenance for up to three E-175s and provide line maintenance for the daily American Eagle service from Springfield to American’s hubs in Charlotte Int’l, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Chicago O’Hare,” explained Envoy’s Vice President of Maintenance, Jay Murray. The project will also create new jobs and thereby benefit the city and Missouri as a whole. Envoy provides regional feeder flights to American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) under the American Eagle brand and ground handling services for American Airlines Group flights. Envoy has hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, New York La Guardia, New York JFK, and Miami Int’l, with a ground handling operation at Los Angeles Int’l. It has a fleet of 160 aircraft, including ninety-three E175LRs, fifty-seven EMB-145LRs, and ten EMB-140LRs, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module reveals. Meanwhile, American Airlines has become the dominant operator in Springfield. In 2019, it flew 41% of all passengers at the airport, offering daily services to Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Charlotte.
