Expensify Touts Carbon Neutrality in 2021, Eyes Net-Zero by 2030

Corporate payments and expense management provider Expensify has achieved carbon neutrality for 2021 and plans to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, the company announced.

Expensify offset its 2021 carbon footprint by supporting Amazon rainforest protection and biodiversity projects, an achievement CEO David Barrett described as an extension of the company’s existing sustainability efforts, which include donating 10 percent of all swipe revenue from its Expensify Card to green causes.

Barrett said that initiative—dubbed Karma Points—has been “wildly successful” since its early 2020 launch, but added, “Now it’s time to take the next leap and address our own carbon footprint.”

Moving forward, that effort will include purchasing additional carbon offsets and devising a “meaningful carbon reduction plan” that will address supply chain-related emissions, with the ultimate goal of becoming net-zero by 2030, Expensify said.

Expensify’s announcement is the latest in a spate of sustainability-related initiatives announced this week by companies including American Airlines, American Express, Marriott International and Southwest Airlines.
