Explora Journeys Launches Marine Photography Exhibit
Explora Journeys is proud to unveil “Marine Encounters,” an exclusive exhibition showcasing stunning marine photographs captured by Prince Hussain Aga Khan. Located in the Galleria d’Arte aboard the newly launched Explora II, this exhibition features a collection of 28 limited-edition photographs that highlight the beauty and diversity of marine life, including coral reefs and deep ocean landscapes.
Khan has gifted this remarkable collection to the MSC Foundation for an initial period of six months. The photographs are available for purchase, with proceeds dedicated to funding a scholarship for a semester of studies in marine science at the University of The Bahamas. This initiative not only supports education but also fosters the next generation of marine conservationists.
“My mission is to show people what’s out there—the diversity, beauty, fascinating behavior, intelligence—to try to make them fall in love with fauna, flora, and habitats,” says Khan, a dedicated conservationist and founder of Focused on Nature. He emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about the alarming decline in marine ecosystems, the threats they face, and the solutions individuals can adopt to foster positive change.
The exhibition was launched during the naming ceremony of Explora II, the second ship in the Explora Journeys fleet. The vessel set sail on its maiden voyage on September 16, departing from Civitavecchia, Italy, and visiting Spain, Sicily, and Malta.
“This exhibition gives cruise guests a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of our oceans through art while being inspired by Prince Hussain’s unwavering dedication to marine conservation,” says Daniela Picco, executive director of the MSC Foundation. “By supporting this cause, we strengthen our partnership with the University of The Bahamas, empowering future ocean champions through education in marine science.”
