Users of Google’s travel services will now have a new feature to play with.

The search giant has added a new feature known as the ‘cheapest time to book’ option.

As the name suggests, the tool allows passengers to see the cheapest time to book flight to a certain destination. Users of the service can already see the historical data in terms of pricing for a certain destination, but now they will know when the cheapest time is to book that fare.

As innovative as Google is, this is not new. Kayak, Hopper and Skyscanner all have similar features.

“With this feature, we’re now giving more specific insights, informed by prior trends, so people can make an informed decision on whether to book now or wait for prices to drop,” a Google spokesperson said.

For the feature to work properly, a destination must have enough historical trends behind it to determine the highs and lows of pricing and when to book. It is possible that the best time to book a fare has passed.

The historical data is accurate when using the same point of origin as well as the destination and airline. Google has also implemented a new system by using a badge to indicate whether or not it thinks that they fare will not get any lower.
