Grupo Xcaret maintains its commitment to sustainable tourism
A new agreement between the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Xcaret Group demonstrates how public-private partnerships promote rural destinations and environments through tourism and the world tourism entity recognizes this.
The expansion of the collaboration between the UNWTO and the Xcaret Group coincides with the opening of the new Hotel Xcaret Arte, a strong investment commitment that demonstrates the confidence of the Xcaret Group in the sustainable recovery of tourism and that, furthermore, is materialized in the context of the International Year of the Creative Economy for Sustainable Development declared by the United Nations.
The agreement aims to deepen the excellent collaboration of the UNWTO with one of its most active affiliate members in the field of promoting sustainable tourism and the social responsibility of the private sector with the conservation and promotion of natural and cultural heritage through of tourism.
SHARED OBJECTIVES
The agreement was confirmed within the framework of the recent first official visit of the UNWTO Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili, to Mexico, during which he met with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the representative of the Tourism Secretariat , Miguel
Torruco.
UNWTO initiated a new collaboration with the state of Yucatán and expanded the existing collaboration with the Government of the State of Quintana Roo, in the Mexican Caribbean.
These are shared objectives that mark the Xcaret Group’s relationship with UNWTO since it joined the Organization as an Affiliate Member in 2004, the year after UNWTO became a specialized agency of the United Nations.
PRIVATE COLLABORATION
Tourism in Quintana Roo has stood out as an example of effective public-private collaboration in tourism, with benefits that go beyond the sector itself.
“This agreement is an important step to continue expanding our collaboration for a better, more sustainable and creative tourism,” said UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili, who highlighted the support it will give to the destination, its culture and the impetus for the rural development.
“This agreement reaffirms our commitment as a sustainable and 100% Mexican company whose business model is based on ethics, respect for human dignity, commitment to biodiversity and the creation of shared value in the communities where we operate,” said Miguel Quintana , President and CEO of Grupo XCaret.
