Guernsey Approves Fleet Upgrade: Aurigny Air Services to Sell E195, Introduce ATR72-600s
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, Aurigny Air Services, based in Guernsey, has received approval from the States of Guernsey to part ways with its E195 jet and welcome two additional ATR72-600 aircraft. The transition, set to conclude by mid-2024, aligns with the local government’s vision to streamline the airline’s fleet, fostering improved reliability and financial performance.
CEO Nico Bezuidenhout emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This project marks the beginning of a significant push towards running a more cost-effective and efficient airline, which will inevitably have a positive impact on the overall experience of our customers.”
The airline’s E195, G-NSEY (msn 19000671), acquired directly from the manufacturer in 2014, is currently dedicated to the Guernsey to London Gatwick route. With the replacement of the jet with two ATR72-600s, Bezuidenhout assured that the total capacity of the airline will remain unchanged, and the transition will not result in any employee layoffs.
“We plan to have more daily flights to London, going from the current six to nine. We will also have the flexibility to run regular flights to Paris, Manchester International, and Dublin International and continue serving a range of popular European destinations,” explained Bezuidenhout. The CEO highlighted the versatility of the ATR72, capable of covering ideal ranges for many European destinations, while retaining the option to charter a jet aircraft when necessary.
In a further commitment to fleet homogenization, Bezuidenhout revealed that Aurigny Air Services aims to retire its two Do228-212(NG)s and shift to a single-type fleet of ATR72-600s, replacing the 19-seaters with another ATR. This strategic fleet upgrade positions the airline for increased operational flexibility and continued service expansion.
