In a strategic move to enhance its Asia-Pacific presence, Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, announced the addition of two prominent Chinese cities to its flight roster for next year. Beginning in January 2024, the airline will commence services from Bahrain International Airport (BAH) to both Guangzhou and Shanghai. These routes will be facilitated using the Boeing 787 aircraft.

In a recent statement, Gulf Air’s CEO, Jeffrey Goh, expressed the airline’s enthusiasm for this expansion. “We see an incredible opportunity in augmenting our footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. The introduction of flights connecting Bahrain with Guangzhou and Shanghai underscores our commitment to that vision,” he remarked.

Goh further highlighted the importance of China as a pivotal player in the global economic and tourism arenas. “China’s rapid economic growth and its burgeoning tourism sector make it indispensable to our calibrated network expansion strategy. With these new routes, we aim to provide more choices and seamless travel experiences for our passengers. Beyond that, we envision this initiative as a conduit for fostering trade, tourism, and collaborative undertakings that would be mutually beneficial for both countries,” he added.

Currently, Gulf Air boasts a wide-reaching network, operating flights from Bahrain to over 40 cities. These span regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and the Far East, underscoring the airline’s position as a key player in the international aviation market.
