Gulf Airlines Cancel Flights After Israeli Strikes on Iran

Gulf carriers have suspended multiple flights across the Middle East after Israeli airstrikes targeted sites in Iran, prompting several countries to close their airspace due to escalating regional tensions.
Emirates, the largest airline in the Middle East, canceled flights to and from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon following the Israeli strikes. According to the airline’s website, several Friday flights and a Saturday service to Tehran were listed as canceled.
Qatar Airways also announced temporary cancellations of flights to Iran and Iraq, citing regional instability and ongoing airspace closures. The carrier said it would continue to monitor the situation closely.
Airports across the UAE, including Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC), warned of delays and cancellations due to restricted airspace over Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Abu Dhabi Airport also issued a statement alerting passengers to expect disruptions throughout the day.
The airspace closures come after Jordan and Iraq grounded all flights early Friday in response to Israel’s strikes. Jordan’s military reported intercepting drones and missiles that entered its airspace, as tensions between Iran and Israel escalated further.
Israel launched widespread strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, reportedly killing senior military officials, including Iran’s armed forces chief of staff, the head of the Revolutionary Guards, and several top nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran fired approximately 100 drones toward Israel, according to the Israeli military, which is working to intercept them.
The evolving conflict has raised serious safety concerns for regional aviation, forcing carriers to reroute or suspend operations amid uncertain conditions.
