Hamburg Airport, Germany’s fifth-busiest airport, successfully resumed its flight operations on Monday Oct. 9 afternoon following a temporary suspension due to a security threat concerning an Iran Air plane that had earlier landed at the airport. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed that the situation was under control.

The airport received an email threat regarding Iran Air flight IR722 from Tehran at approximately 11:30 a.m. local time. Despite the threat, the flight, which carried 198 passengers and 16 crew members, safely landed at Hamburg at around 12:20 p.m. Passengers and crew were promptly evacuated and taken to a secure area, while both the aircraft and luggage underwent thorough inspections by federal police.

As a precautionary measure, the airport temporarily suspended all takeoffs and landings from 12:40 p.m. to 2:10 p.m., impacting around 20 flights. Hamburg Airport closely collaborated with authorities and the airline to ensure the safety and security of all passengers, as well as its employees.

Federal police confirmed that no explosives or suspicious items were found onboard the plane or within the luggage. They are actively investigating the source and motive behind the threat, which, though taken seriously, was not deemed credible.

Hamburg Airport expressed its apologies for any inconvenience caused by the incident and extended its gratitude to passengers and employees for their understanding and cooperation. The airport has since resumed its normal operations and anticipates no further disruptions. Your safety remains our top priority.
