Hawaiian Airlines will suspend service to Molokai and Lanai islands Jan. 14, a move forced by contractual terms that forbid the service, which is run for Hawaiian by Empire Airlines, when flights operated by the airline’s own pilots are cut substantially. “It is unclear when demand will recover sufficiently to allow us to return to Molokai, Lanai , or Kapalua in West Maui, or to reinstate all-cargo Neighbor Island service,” Hawaiian Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jon Snook said in a letter to employees.
