Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport is set to grow with a $450 million project that will add seven gates and increase its capacity by 25%.

The project, which is expected to be completed by 2025, will allow the airport to accommodate more flights and passengers, especially from Southwest Airlines, which will operate six of the new gates.

“While we are still finalizing the terms and business agreement, we’re glad to underscore this is the direction we are heading for Hobby,” said Southwest representative Dan Landson.

The project will also include a new parking garage, a sky bridge, a central utility plant and other improvements to the airport’s infrastructure and amenities.

The project is part of the airport’s long-term master plan, which aims to enhance its role as a regional hub and a gateway to Latin America. The airport, which opened in 1927, serves more than 14 million passengers a year, with flights to over 70 destinations.

The project will be funded by the airport’s revenue bonds, which are backed by fees paid by airlines and passengers. The project will not require any taxpayer money or city funds.

The airport hopes that the project will boost the local economy, create jobs and attract more visitors and businesses to Houston.

“We are excited to partner with Southwest Airlines and the city of Houston on this project, which will benefit our customers, our employees and our community,” said Mario Diaz, director of Houston Airports.
