Hoteliers’ exemption plea delays French Quarter tax

A French Quarter sales tax that was to go into effect July 1 won’t be imposed before October at the earliest as New Orleans officials weigh an exemption request from the hotel industry. The quarter-cent levy, meant primarily for extra police patrols, was approved by voters in April and would replace a similar tax that’s expired.
