iGA Istanbul Airport is taking significant strides towards fulfilling its aspiration to be recognized as a global epicenter for aviation training, showcasing its commitment to addressing the demand for skilled and proficient personnel within the aviation sector.

In its quest to achieve this ambitious goal, iGA Istanbul Airport recently orchestrated a two-day Global Training Symposium titled the “Excellence Through Innovation Workshop,” in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The event garnered participation from distinguished executives across various aviation bodies and airports globally. Notable attendees included Jorge Vargas, ICAO Director of Capacity Development and Implementation, and Dr. Laura Camastra, ICAO Global Aviation Training Officer. The symposium was kicked off with an opening address by Selahattin Bilgen, Acting CEO of iGA Istanbul Airport.

Underlining the airport’s dedication to becoming a cornerstone in aviation education, Bilgen emphasized the critical role of nurturing trained and qualified aviation professionals. Since 2022, through the establishment of the iGA Academy, iGA Istanbul Airport has spearheaded advancements in training processes, securing accreditation from esteemed aviation organizations including ACI, IATA, ICAO, TSA, and EUROCAE.

Bilgen elaborated on the significance of the symposium and the airport’s future directions, saying, “Hosting this pivotal event underscores our commitment to educational excellence within the aviation ecosystem. Recognizing the essential nature of education, we persist in our endeavors unabated. Since achieving ICAO training accreditation in May 2022, we’ve launched numerous training initiatives accessible to all ICAO Trainair Plus members. Furthermore, in alignment with ICAO’s objectives, we’ve delegated three staff members to Montreal for two years, with plans to broaden this initiative as an industry benchmark. These initiatives are crucial, as our goal is to set a global standard in aviation education. We advocate for international collaboration and coordination among aviation stakeholders, believing our collective success hinges on our ability to unite and share knowledge.”
