IHG Hotels & Resorts Teams Up with EnviroSpark to Boost EV Charging Station Availability Across North America
IHG Hotels & Resorts, in a significant move towards sustainability and convenience for eco-conscious travelers, has partnered with EnviroSpark, a leader in electrical vehicle (EV) charging solutions, to extend EV charging stations across its U.S. and Canada properties. This collaboration is set to equip all IHG-branded hotels with the option to install state-of-the-art EV chargers, providing guests with seamless access to charging facilities during their stays.
To facilitate this initiative, IHG is offering hotel owners a comprehensive EV charging guide, filled with best practices to encourage the adoption of EV chargers. This step underscores IHG’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences by integrating sustainable practices into its operations.
As electric vehicles gain popularity, driven by global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and the automotive industry’s pivot towards electrification, IHG is positioning itself as a forward-thinking player in the hospitality sector. Citing forecasts by Goldman Sachs Research, IHG anticipates that EVs will account for nearly half of all new car sales by 2035, highlighting the growing need for more accessible charging infrastructure.
In response to the evolving needs of modern travelers, IHG has also introduced an EV-charger search filter on its IHG One Rewards mobile app. This feature, alongside a suite of advanced mapping capabilities, allows guests to easily locate IHG hotels equipped with EV chargers. Presently, the IHG network boasts over 1,100 hotels globally that offer EV charging facilities.
Brian McGuinness, Senior Vice President of Global Guest Experience at IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that providing additional EV charging options aligns perfectly with IHG’s mission to cater to the needs of travelers, particularly those who favor iconic road-trip brands like Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express.
EnviroSpark Founder and CEO Aaron Luque echoed this sentiment, highlighting the partnership’s role in promoting a sustainable economy and meeting the increasing demand for eco-friendly travel options. This collaboration between IHG Hotels & Resorts and EnviroSpark not only enhances the guest experience but also contributes to the broader goal of fostering environmental sustainability within the travel industry.
