Jobs Disappearing Fast by 2030 as AI Rises, Says WEF Report

Bank tellers, cashiers, postal workers, and administrative assistants are among the jobs expected to decline significantly by 2030, according to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Future of Jobs Report. The report, released ahead of WEF’s annual Davos meeting, highlights how AI and automation are reshaping the global workforce.

WEF estimates that 22% of today’s jobs will be affected by job creation and displacement over the next six years. The report projects the addition of 170 million new jobs (14% of current employment), but 92 million jobs will be lost, resulting in a net gain of 78 million jobs by 2030.

The findings are based on data from 1,000 leading global employers representing 14 million workers across 20 industries in 55 economies. The research examines the impact of macroeconomic trends on employment, workforce skills, and emerging job strategies companies plan to implement.

Key factors driving workforce changes include technological advancements, demographic shifts, economic uncertainty, and the green energy transition. Additionally, geo-economic tensions are reshaping industries and accelerating automation adoption.

While certain roles are at risk, demand is growing for AI specialists, data analysts, sustainability experts, and cybersecurity professionals. The evolving job market presents both challenges and opportunities for businesses and workers adapting to AI-driven transformations.
