In a recent Forbes ranking, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California has been identified as the ‘angriest’ airport in the United States. The analysis was based on an examination of Twitter posts from travelers at major airports across the country, evaluating sentiments expressed, such as sadness, joy, love, anger, fear, and surprise.

Despite being located in proximity to Disneyland, known as one of the happiest places on earth, John Wayne Airport received an unfavorable ranking due to several factors including noise, staff behavior, TSA complaints, and frequent delays.

Claiming second and third place respectively are Jacksonville International Airport in Jacksonville, Florida, and Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska.

While some airports garnered negative experiences from passengers, there were a few bright spots.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the report indicates that travelers passing through Indianapolis, Seattle-Tacoma, and Kansas City airports were less likely to express anger in their tweets.

Indianapolis Airport has previously earned recognition as the best airport in North America by the Airports Council International. It boasts a wide range of entertainment and shopping options for travelers, including MAC Cosmetics, FAO Schwarz Toy Store, TUMI, and Vineyard Vines.

Although the Forbes data suggests that passengers may have had negative encounters at airports, it’s important to note that many complaints were directed towards airlines and the TSA.

In a recent “Air Travel Consumer Report” released by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines, and Jetblue Airways were revealed to have the highest number of consumer complaints. The report also highlighted over 14,000 complaints filed against the TSA.

Regardless of the chosen airport for summer travel, it’s expected to be an exceptionally busy season. According to AAA, this year’s Memorial Day Weekend is anticipated to be the busiest since 2000.
