Korean Air recently celebrated 30 years of continuous service to San Francisco International Airport (SFO), marking a key milestone for the airline and its enduring link between South Korea and the U.S. West Coast. The anniversary was honored on October 29, 2024, with a special commemorative flight from Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) to San Francisco, flight KE 024, which included festivities both in the air and on the ground.

To make the journey memorable, Korean Air organized a series of events for passengers on the anniversary flight. The 30th passenger to board the flight received a complimentary round-trip ticket from Seoul to San Francisco, symbolizing the three-decade milestone. Additionally, each passenger was gifted a unique tote bag designed by the Korean Association of New York Artists (KANA) and a selection of San Francisco’s iconic Ghirardelli chocolates, blending Korean and Californian elements in the celebration.

The airline hosted an exclusive anniversary dinner in San Francisco’s vibrant downtown district on October 30. The gathering included representatives from Korean Air, the Korean Consulate, local travel agencies, industry partners, and members of the media. Jin Ho Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Korean Air’s Americas Regional Headquarters, expressed gratitude for the passengers’ support over the years. “On this significant occasion, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our customers for their unwavering support and trust in Korean Air,” Lee remarked. “We look forward to continuing our commitment to connect Korea and San Francisco with exceptional services.”

Since its inaugural service on October 29, 1994, which launched from Gimpo Airport to San Francisco International Airport, Korean Air has maintained at least seven weekly flights on this route. The consistent schedule has supported not only tourism but also significant economic exchanges, particularly between South Korea and Silicon Valley’s booming tech and semiconductor industries. Korean Air’s regular connections have provided vital travel options for professionals in these sectors, helping foster international collaboration and investment.

The San Francisco route has become Korean Air’s second-most popular destination on the U.S. West Coast, surpassed only by Los Angeles. In 2023 alone, the airline transported around 176,000 passengers on the San Francisco route, reflecting its popularity among both leisure and business travelers. The route is operated with a Boeing.
