A Las Vegas hotel housekeeper is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing jewelry worth $1 million from a room at the Vdara hotel on May 7. The accused, Amanda Melendez, now faces charges of grand larceny, residential burglary, and conspiracy to commit burglary.

According to investigators, Melendez confessed in a recorded call with her boyfriend in prison, revealing her plan to stage a robbery scene by trashing the room and leaving the door unlocked. She allegedly intended to make it appear like something else had happened. In the call, she was heard clocking out and telling her coworkers that she would see them the next day.

The owner of the property, MGM Resorts, has not commented on the incident or Melendez’s previous arrests on solicitation and prostitution charges. Melendez had been employed by the hotel for just eight months. It remains unclear whether the stolen property will be recovered.

Melendez appeared in court on May 16 and is scheduled to appear again next month to face the charges against her. This extraordinary case has captured attention due to the significant value of the stolen items and the elaborate nature of the alleged crime.
