LATAM Airlines Group has declared a significant investment of USD 2 billion in Brazil, aimed at enhancing passenger services, aircraft maintenance, and technological advancements over the next two years. This announcement was made during a high-profile meeting in Santiago de Chile, attended by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In a strategic move to bolster Brazil’s aviation industry, LATAM Airlines Brasil signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Brazil’s Ministry of Labour to initiate a comprehensive program at the São Carlos Francisco Pereira Lopez MRO facilities. This partnership will focus on training and employing specialized labor, transforming São Carlos into a major aerospace hub in Brazil.

While LATAM has been under scrutiny regarding potential acquisitions of new Embraer E2 jets, no definitive decisions have been announced yet. However, discussions are reportedly progressing with the Brazilian development bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social – BNDES) concerning new aircraft orders for both LATAM Brasil and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes. President Lula da Silva is keen on ensuring that these Brazilian airlines support local manufacturer Embraer, which already counts Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras among its clients.
