Top-notch customer service, deep product knowledge, experimenting with different product categories and kicking up the e-commerce component have kept many independent housewares shops from going under during the pandemic. For example, the situation looked bleak in March 2020 for Tony Curtis-Wellings, founder of Farraday’s Kitchen Store in Texas, but doubling down on outdoor grilling and entertainment products has since led to an enormous store expansion and twice the number of employees.
