A Lufthansa flight destined for Bangkok, originating from Munich, Germany, was diverted to Delhi on Wednesday due to an unruly passenger on board.

The Lufthansa flight LH772 made an unscheduled landing at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in Delhi after the flight’s pilots contacted air traffic control (ATC) to report a “situation and possible unruly passenger.”

The airline confirmed that the unruly passenger in question is of German nationality and has been removed from the aircraft. He has also issued an apology for his behavior.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official stated that Lufthansa is in coordination with the German Embassy regarding the passenger.

In a statement, Lufthansa explained the reason for the diversion: “On Wednesday, November 27, flight LH772 from Munich to Bangkok was diverted to Delhi due to an unruly passenger on board. The person in question was handed over to authorities. The flight to Bangkok is expected to continue subsequently with minor delays. Safety and security on board for our passengers and crew is our top priority.”

Lufthansa also mentioned that the flight is prepared for pushback to Bangkok after the tires have cooled.

A decision on whether to hand over the alleged unruly passenger to Delhi Police or accept his apology and arrange for his return to Germany on another flight is currently pending, according to sources.

Earlier reports suggested that cabin crew on Lufthansa flight LH772 from Munich to Bangkok had reported disruptive conduct due to a dispute between a husband and wife on board. The aircraft initially requested permission to land in Pakistan, but for undisclosed reasons, the request was denied, leading to the flight’s diversion to Delhi Airport, where the unruly male passenger was removed and handed over to airport security.

Incidents of unruly passenger behavior on flights have been reported in the past, prompting airlines and authorities to take appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and crew members.
