Maersk Air Cargo, based in Billund, Denmark, has welcomed its inaugural Boeing 777-200F as part of its fleet expansion strategy.

The newly delivered freighter was officially handed over to Maersk Air Cargo on July 11, 2024. Its delivery journey took it from Boeing’s Everett facility through Moses Lake, Greenville/Spartanburg International, and Bangor International, culminating in its arrival at Billund on July 13.

This acquisition marks the first of two Boeing 777-200Fs ordered by Maersk Air Cargo, with the second expected to join the fleet later in the current quarter. These additions will complement Maersk Air Cargo’s existing fleet of Boeing 767 freighters, which includes a variety of models: five 767-200(ERBDSF)s, four 767-200(PC)s, one 767-200(SF), five 767-300ER(BDSF)s, and two 767-300Fs.

Maersk Air Cargo’s parent company, A.P. Moller – Maersk, has highlighted a rebound in air cargo volumes, with global shipments increasing by 4-5% compared to the first quarter of 2023. Maersk Air Cargo itself reported a robust 52% growth in air freight between the first quarters of 2023 and 2024.

Earlier this year, Maersk Air Cargo expanded its operations by establishing a subsidiary, Maersk Air Cargo UK. However, certification processes in the UK are still underway, reflecting the airline’s strategic expansion initiatives amidst a recovering air cargo market.
