Major Midwest passenger rail expansion proposed
Chicago would be a major passenger rail hub, and smaller hubs could be created in other cities under a 40-year plan by the Federal Railroad Administration to extend service to at least a dozen Midwest cities. Among the cities to benefit would be Columbus, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Madison, Wis.; the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities; Des Moines, Iowa; Omaha, Neb.; and Wichita, Kan., said Laura Kliewer, director of the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.
