MSC Cruises Enhances Passenger Experience with New Facial Verification Technology

MSC Cruises has introduced facial verification technology to enhance security and streamline the boarding process on its cruise ships. Developed by Neurotechnology, a Vilnius, Lithuania-based firm specializing in biometric technologies, this system is now a feature of both the MSC web portal and the MSC for Me mobile application.

During the pre-cruise check-in, passengers can upload a photo of their face using their phone or computer. This image is then stored in MSC Cruises’ onboard systems, assisting in passenger identification and enhancing service personalization. The technology, designed by Neurotechnology, ensures high-quality images with optimal contrast, requires passengers to face the camera directly, and prevents obstructions caused by accessories like hats and sunglasses.

“The captured photo makes the guest easily recognizable by the crew staff,” explained a spokesperson from Neurotechnology. This recognition capability aims to provide a seamless interaction between passengers and crew throughout the cruise.

Luca Pronzati, Chief Digital Technology Officer at MSC Cruises, emphasized the technology’s role in improving the guest experience, stating that it allows for “an even smoother and faster embarkation process.” This deployment of advanced facial verification technology underlines MSC Cruises’ commitment to leveraging cutting-edge solutions to enhance security measures and overall customer satisfaction aboard their ships.
