Multi-franchise holder Briad loses pandemic-linked suit

The Briad Group of hotel franchisees has lost a lawsuit through which it sought $40.8 million from its insurer to cover business interruption due to contamination from the pandemic. The plaintiff, which has more than 120 US franchise locations, was covered only for direct physical damage or loss, a federal district judge ruled.
