N.Y. lawmakers OK $100M plan for hotel, office re-use

Newly passed legislation would empower the state of New York to spend up to $100 million to buy distressed hotels and other commercial buildings and convert them to affordable housing run by nonprofits. A spokesman for Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Cuomo is still reviewing the bill, which follows California’s $600 million initiative to acquire properties for similar conversions.
