NYC hotels must pay severance unless they reopen, rehire

New York City hotels that closed or laid off 75% of their workforce during the pandemic will be required to provide severance pay to service employees for up to 30 weeks under an ordinance passed Thursday. The City Council’s action allows exemptions for hotels that reopen and recall at least 25% of workers by certain dates.
