Only 32% of Vacation Rental Property Managers Use AI

Despite artificial intelligence (AI) dominating travel tech discussions, less than a third of vacation rental property managers currently use AI, according to Lodgify’s 2024 U.S. Vacation Rental Industry Report.

The report, based on responses from 800 property managers and one million bookings, found that only 32.3% of respondents have adopted AI tools. Surprisingly, 8% were unsure if they had used AI in 2024, highlighting a lack of awareness around its applications.

Instead, respondents found channel management systems, website builders, and property management software more useful. 86% of managers rely on mobile apps to run their properties, while 60% use smart locks to improve security and streamline guest access.

However, technology adoption comes with challenges. 22.1% of respondents cited selecting the right tools as one of their top three challenges in 2024, emphasizing the overwhelming number of options available.

Lodgify, which appointed its first Chief AI Officer in 2024, acknowledges that while AI is evolving, many property managers still struggle to integrate it effectively.

Beyond technology, the report examines remote property management trends, revealing that 61.6% of respondents manage their rentals remotely. It also includes insights on booking patterns, daily rates, stay lengths, and booking sources, echoing findings from Hostfully’s latest study.

As AI adoption grows, vacation rental operators may need more guidance to maximize its benefits in an increasingly competitive market.
