A passenger’s distressing experience with severe food allergies during a flight has brought attention to the importance of meal accuracy and sensitivity. Chloe Chapdelaine, who suffers from celiac disease, had a harrowing flight with Emirates, enduring nausea and diarrhea after mistakenly consuming a non-gluten-free croissant from her special meal tray. She took to TikTok to document her ordeal, warning others to be vigilant when requesting in-flight meals.

Rewritten News:

Chloe Chapdelaine, a passenger with a severe food allergy, recently shared her traumatic flight experience on TikTok, calling it the “worst flight of her life.” The incident occurred during her journey from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with Emirates.

Chapdelaine, who has celiac disease and strictly requested a gluten-free meal, was shocked when she found herself battling severe pain, nausea, and diarrhea after consuming a croissant that came with her specially ordered meal.

In the TikTok video, Chapdelaine revealed that all the other food items in her special meal were properly labeled as “GF” or “Gluten-Free,” except for the croissant. Assuming it was also gluten-free, she ate half of it before realizing her mistake.

“I’ve been gluten-free for almost 10 years, and I haven’t eaten any. I was told I was given a gluten-free croissant with my gluten-free airplane meal, and it turns out that it wasn’t – and I ate half of it,” she lamented to the camera.

As a highly sensitive individual, even trace amounts of gluten can trigger severe reactions for Chapdelaine. Within moments, she began experiencing stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and itching skin, forcing her to seek relief in the aircraft lavatory, where she documented her distress.

In a word of caution to others, Chapdelaine stressed the importance of thoroughly checking all items in a special in-flight meal tray before consumption.

Subsequently, Chapdelaine approached a flight attendant to verify her meal, only to discover that the croissant was indeed not gluten-free and had been mistakenly added to her breakfast tray. Despite the flight attendants’ sympathy, she filed a formal complaint with Emirates.

Emirates, in response, stated that they are investigating the incident after receiving Chapdelaine’s complaint.

Celiac disease, a condition where the body’s immune system reacts adversely to gluten consumption, can cause various symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating. Chapdelaine’s experience underscores the need for airlines to ensure meal accuracy and cater to the specific needs of passengers with food allergies.
