The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has disclosed that a federal jury convicted Dallas-based pilot for making false statements on his Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Class 1 medical certificate application. The conviction, which occurred on August 16, pertains to two incidents where Ojo failed to report his prior misdemeanor theft convictions.

The case dates back to February 2023 when Ojo pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft for stealing luggage from the baggage carousel at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Despite these convictions, Ojo falsified his FAA medical certificate applications in March 2023 and again in March 2024 by not disclosing his criminal history.

Ojo, who previously served as a first officer for Dana Airlines in Nigeria, now faces severe penalties for his actions, including the possibility of up to five years in federal prison and fines reaching $500,000. Following his federal conviction for dishonesty towards the FAA, he has been detained pending sentencing.

This case underscores the critical importance of honesty in the aviation industry, particularly regarding the health and integrity of its personnel. The FAA’s stringent requirements for medical certification are designed to ensure the safety and reliability of airline operations, highlighting the severe repercussions for those who attempt to circumvent these regulations.
