Proposal’s tax changes would exempt family companies

The proposed American Families Plan would exempt small businesses from some of its tax increases, a White House official has said. Changes to the stepped-up basis on capital gains taxes would help fund the plan, but it would protect family-owned businesses from paying income tax when heirs continue to run the companies, the official says.
