Provo, Utah, is better known as a great ski destination and the home of the Osmond family.

Now it will be home to international flights.

The airport made the announcement this weekend and even trotted out Mayor Michelle Kaufusi to make the announcement.

Now speculation turns to which airline is going to make those international flights. Provo is home to Allegiant Airlines and Breeze Airways. Both are known as low-budget carriers. So speculation has also turned that by ‘international’, it means the carriers will probably go to Mexico.

“The Provo Airport has been so convenient because it’s so close by,” Taylor Vaughn, a Provo resident told local news. “I’m really excited for it to go international!”

The announcement helps Utah residents avoid the trip to Salt Lake City and gives the western United States another option to travel internationally. It also means a likely expansion of the airport, which brings in more jobs.

While the mayor did not specifically mention either airline, both are rumored to offer flights to Mexico. Allegiant, in fact, is known to have filed paperwork with the Department of Transportation to be able to fly to Mexico.
