A Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner sustained damage at Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha when its right main landing gear collapsed into a broken drain cover upon arrival. The incident occurred on October 25, 2024, as Flight QR663 from Colombo, Sri Lanka, was taxiing to its designated parking stand.

The Boeing 787-8, registered as A7-BCV, had completed its four-and-a-half-hour journey from Colombo and touched down at 05:23 local time. As the aircraft moved at low speed towards its final position, its right main gear fell into a collapsed drain cover, causing the right side to drop and the number two engine cowling to contact the tarmac.

Qatar Airways promptly issued a statement confirming the incident: “On October 25, while taxiing at Hamad International Airport, the right landing gear of a Qatar Airways aircraft struck an on-ground structure, causing the right engine to make contact with the ground. No injuries were reported, and all passengers were safely disembarked and rebooked on a later flight.”

The affected aircraft, which has been in service with Qatar Airways since 2015, remains grounded as engineers assess the extent of the damage to its landing gear, engine cowling, fan blades, and other critical components. Meanwhile, airport authorities have launched an investigation to understand the underlying cause of the drain cover collapse and the structural integrity of the affected area.
