Report: Choice Hotels leader’s Chicago Tribune bid stalls

Choice Hotels International Chairman Stewart Bainum is looking for new support in his effort to buy the Chicago Tribune after a partner backed out, according to sources. A review of the newspaper firm’s finances reportedly changed Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss’ mind after he had pledged more than $500 million of Bainum’s $680 million bid against hedge fund Alden Global Capital LLC.
