Report highlights need to address systemic racism

Insufficient investigations and a collective unwillingness to acknowledge systemic racism mean that law enforcement officers who kill or otherwise violate the rights of Black people are rarely prosecuted or punished, a report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights says. “I am calling on all states to stop denying — and start dismantling — racism; to end impunity and build trust; to listen to the voices of people of African descent; and to confront past legacies and deliver redress,” says UN rights chief Michelle Bachelet.
