Resort fees face federal consumer watchdog scrutiny

Add-on charges by resort hotels are on a list of so-called “junk fees” that the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is targeting as sources of billions of dollars in unwarranted hidden costs for goods and services. Director Rohit Chopra said Wednesday the bureau is pursuing new rules for tacked-on assessments such as resort fees, credit card late payment penalties and concert ticket service charges.
