Ryanair to close Nuremberg and Stockholm Skav..
Ryanair has announced that it will close several bases in 2020 including Nuremberg and Stockholm Skavsta as the airline revises its summer 2020 schedule and growth projections. The closures follow the disclosure that the airline will now receive only ten Boeing 737 MAX aircraft next year.
The Irish LCC has two aircraft stationed in Nuremberg and four in Stockholm Skavsta, these bases will be closed in March next year.
Some other bases will also be affected but the LCC has not revealed which ones in particular. “We also expect to cut summer capacity in a number of other existing bases, and we are currently in discussions with our people, our unions, and our affected airports to finalise these minor reductions,” the airline stated in a press release.
The decision issue to the ongoing Boeing 737 MAX delivery problems. “We regret these two further bases closures and minor capacity cuts at other bases which are solely due to further delivery delays to our Boeing MAX aircraft,” said Eddie Wilson, Ryanair’s DAC CEO according to the statement. “We are continuing to work with Boeing and affected airports to minimise these capacity cuts and job losses.”
