Safran Acquires AI Aerospace Firm Preligens for €220 Million

French aerospace giant Safran has announced the acquisition of artificial intelligence firm Preligens for 220 million euros ($243.3 million). The deal marks a significant expansion of Safran’s capabilities in AI, specifically in the aerospace and defense sectors. Preligens, known for its advanced AI technologies that analyze satellite imagery to identify objects of military interest, will be rebranded as Safran.AI and integrated into Safran Electronics & Defense.

This acquisition enables Safran to enhance its technological offerings with Preligens’ expertise in developing complex algorithms and software for object detection and identification. According to Safran, this move is set to open new avenues for AI applications across aviation, defense, and space industries. Franck Saudo, CEO of Safran Electronics & Defense, emphasized the strategic importance of the merger in driving the development of innovative AI solutions within these sectors.
