The Sandals Foundation places a strong emphasis on environmental conservation. Over the years, it has supported the protection of 19 marine and terrestrial reserves throughout the Caribbean. Significant achievements include planting over 30,000 corals and 27,000 trees, and facilitating the hatching of nearly 200,000 sea turtles. Recent projects include a community-led coral restoration in Grenada and supporting the development of an app for hiking trails in Curaçao, enhancing access to natural beauty across languages.
Community Support
Beyond environmental efforts, the Sandals Foundation strengthens local communities where its resorts are located. It has significantly impacted over 355,000 individuals through various health initiatives. For instance, in 2022, the Foundation contributed $50,000 towards purchasing ventilators for Jamaican hospitals. Additionally, initiatives like Grenada’s Under Grenrop’s Wings promote sustainable farming and community empowerment.
Advancing Education
Education is a cornerstone of the Foundation’s mission. It has enriched the educational landscape by donating over 6,000 computers and nearly 300,000 books. The Foundation also supports innovative educational programs, such as the “Let it Grow” program in Turks & Caicos, which introduces students to advanced agricultural techniques, and a comprehensive music program in Exuma that fosters musical talent and appreciation among high school students.
The Power of 15 Initiative
In celebration of its fifteenth anniversary and Caribbean Heritage Month, the Sandals Foundation has launched “The Power of 15” initiative. For every donation of $15 or more, the Foundation will contribute an additional $15 towards installing solar panels in Caribbean schools. This initiative not only supports renewable energy but also ensures that 100% of the proceeds directly benefit educational institutions.
