Sandals Resorts, the Caribbean’s leading all-inclusive brand, recently hosted a significant event in Jamaica, attracting over 1,000 members from the travel industry, including travel advisors, industry partners, government officials, and resort executives. The Jamaica Love Showcase provided a unique opportunity to explore the island’s tourism offerings through the lens of the Sandals and Beaches Resorts brands.
Under the leadership of Sandals’ Executive Chairman Adam Stewart, the one-day event featured keynote speeches from influential figures, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness. The showcase highlighted exciting developments shaping travel to Jamaica and the broader Caribbean, covering topics such as sustainability, culinary innovation, enhancing the all-inclusive experience, and the importance of employee engagement in delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Sustainability Efforts in a Regenerative Phase
Kirstin McCarthy, Director of Sustainability for Sandals Resorts International, discussed the company’s commitment to “regenerative” tourism, which goes beyond minimizing its environmental footprint to actively enhancing ecosystems and communities in the Caribbean. Initiatives such as recycling food waste, partnering with local farmers, and ambitious renewable energy programs were outlined. In celebration of the Sandals Foundation’s 15th anniversary, the “Power of 15” project was launched, aiming to deliver solar power to school computer labs across Jamaica.
The Linkages Program emphasizes the vital connection between tourism and Jamaica’s local economy. McCarthy noted, “The economic penetration of the U.S. dollar in Jamaica not only supports livelihoods but fosters a richer cultural exchange,” highlighting the importance of tourism in enhancing the local community.
Elevating Caribbean Cuisine
With a growing global interest in Caribbean cuisine, Sandals is reimagining its culinary offerings to feature the region’s rich flavors and traditions. Luke Mathot, Vice President of Product Innovation, stated, “Food is a lens into a culture, and we want our guests to experience more of the Caribbean than ever before.” New dining concepts, such as BLÜM, which highlights Blue Mountain coffee, and Sweetwood, a barbeque-jerk fusion restaurant, will immerse guests in authentic Jamaican flavors.
Creating Authentic Connections Through Design
In response to the evolving hospitality landscape, Sandals is emphasizing purposeful design that incorporates local materials and Caribbean elements. Danielle Darling, Senior Manager of Interior Design, shared that this approach enhances the authentic experience of the island’s heritage. For instance, the new Sandals Dunn’s River features the Coyaba Sky Villa Swim-up Rondoval Butler Suites, designed for stargazing, with a dedicated Stargazing Concierge to enhance the experience.
Focus on Active Wellness
Reflecting a shift in the wellness travel sector, Sandals is introducing wellness experiences that blend relaxation with active engagement. “Wellness is about finding your energy—however or wherever you find it,” said Stacy Spooner, Corporate Director of Fitness and Spa. With new offerings like pickleball at Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, guests can combine fun and fitness while immersed in stunning natural surroundings.
Employee Engagement Drives Guest Satisfaction
Sandals Resorts International believes that engaged employees create exceptional guest experiences. Jamie Green, Corporate Manager of Employee Experience, emphasized the importance of investing in employee development. Sandals Corporate University offers transformative educational opportunities through over 10,000 training courses. The resort chain has also partnered with EON Reality to implement augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) in training programs, enhancing the learning experience for staff.
The Jamaica Love Showcase highlighted the significance of relationship-building within the tourism industry. The event welcomed over 700 travel advisor partners and inspirational speakers, exemplifying Sandals’ commitment to its industry partners and the communities it serves. Adam Stewart summarized the brand’s philosophy by stating, “Build lasting relationships with people who care as much as you do,” reinforcing the interconnectedness essential for the Caribbean’s tourism success and continued growth.
