Scoot Set to Launch E190-E2 Operations in May, Announces New Routes
Scoot, the budget airline subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is gearing up to introduce its Embraer E190-E2 aircraft into service starting May, marking a significant expansion in its operational capabilities. The introduction of the E190-E2 jets will enable Scoot to inaugurate new routes to Koh Samui and Sibu, as well as enhance service on existing routes to Miri, Kuantan, Hat Yai, and Krabi.
The delivery of the first two of nine E2 jets, expected in April, sets the stage for Scoot’s strategic expansion. The inaugural E2 flight is scheduled for May 7, focusing on destinations Krabi and Hat Yai. Subsequently, the arrival of the second jet will facilitate the launch of services to the four additional airports, including daily flights to Koh Samui commencing on May 13.
This fleet enhancement allows Scoot to increase flight frequencies to Miri and Kuantan, introducing a fourth weekly flight to each destination in May and June, respectively. Furthermore, the airline will begin thrice-weekly flights to Sibu starting June 5, underlining its commitment to increasing connectivity within the region.
The decision to lease nine E190-E2 aircraft from Azorra Aviation was solidified in May of the previous year, following an initial letter of intent. Scoot’s strategy with the Embraer jets is to target less densely served, non-metropolitan airports across Southeast Asia, broadening its reach and offering more travel options to its customers.
The addition of Koh Samui and Sibu to Scoot’s network will raise the total number of destinations served to 69, emphasizing the airline’s role in bolstering Singapore’s status as a key regional hub. The carrier’s statement from March 5 reflects optimism in the sustained growth of air travel demand within Southeast Asia, supported by its ongoing fleet expansion.
Scoot’s current fleet, as recorded by ch-aviation, comprises a diverse mix of 54 aircraft, including Airbus A320-200s, A320-200Ns, A321-200NXs, and Boeing B787-8s and B787-10s. The incorporation of the E190-E2 jets represents not only a significant milestone for Scoot but also a testament to its dynamic approach to adapting to market demands and enhancing its operational network.
