Sideral Linhas Aéreas, based in Curitiba International, has set its sights on expanding its cargo capabilities with the addition of two Boeing 777-200Fs, according to a recently signed Letter of Intent. The Brazilian carrier aims to operate cargo charters connecting Brazil and China and has submitted the details of its plan to the US Department of Transportation.

While specific details about the B777-200Fs acquisition remain undisclosed, Sideral Linhas Aéreas outlined its ambition to strengthen its cargo operations between Brazil and China. The airline’s filing with the DOT indicates its intent to acquire the two freighters for dedicated cargo charters.

In addition to the prospective B777-200Fs, Sideral Linhas Aéreas is in the process of incorporating its first Boeing 737-800(SF) freighters into its fleet. One of the converted freighters, N539RL (msn 28639), has completed conversion and is currently parked in Dothan, while another, N237GE (msn 28591), is undergoing the conversion process. Sideral has secured six conversion slots with Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. and has acquired four B737-800s for this purpose.

The cargo expansion is part of Sideral Linhas Aéreas’ “Sideral Moving Forward” strategy, focusing on structured and sustainable growth. As part of this vision, the airline also plans to acquire one or more B737 converted firefighting aircraft to operate missions in the Amazon region.

In its application for a US Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) and exemption, Sideral Linhas Aéreas revealed its plans for growth in the US and Mexico as integral components of its strategic vision. The airline aims to initially operate 10-12 charter flights on behalf of sports teams, musical acts, and other organizations within the first year of US operations. Sideral’s only passenger B737-800, PR-SLA (msn 28628), will be dedicated to its US charter operations.

Owned primarily by Paulo Adorno and his daughter Juliana, Sideral Linhas Aéreas is also in the process of obtaining IOSA certification. The airline currently operates a diverse fleet, including B737-300s, B737-400s, B737-500s, and the newly introduced B737-800(SF) freighters, reflecting its commitment to versatility in meeting market demands. Industry observers are closely monitoring Sideral Linhas Aéreas’ strategic moves as it aims to position itself as a key player in the dynamic cargo and charter aviation sectors.
