After launching service to Fresno Yosemite International Airport this spring, Southwest carried about 16% of departing passengers in May — the same month the airport set an all-time travel record. “The regional response to our arrival in Fresno is exactly what we hoped when bringing our service in the largest air market in California previously not served by Southwest,” said Brad Hawkins, a spokesman for the airline. Passengers Chris and Heather Weidner detailed on Southwest Airlines’ blog their recent weekend trip to Yosemite National Park, which they reached after connecting to Fresno on a Southwest flight from Las Vegas.
