Spirit Airlines Flight Attendants Hospitalized After Exposure to Fumes During Preflight Checks
Three Spirit Airlines flight attendants were hospitalized after being exposed to fumes while conducting preflight checks on an aircraft at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) on December 17, 2023.
New Jersey State Police confirmed that they dispatched troopers to ACY in response to the incident, which occurred around 5:45 am local time. Following their exposure to the fumes, the Spirit Airlines flight attendants were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation by healthcare professionals.
Jeffrey Lebron, a detective and police spokesperson, provided further details about the incident later in the day, stating, “The Spirit Airlines aircraft was unoccupied when the fume exposure incident took place. The current status of the three flight attendants remains unknown.”
Reportedly, the flight attendants were scheduled to be on a flight bound for Fort Myers, Florida, departing at 6:35 am. However, the flight was subsequently delayed due to the incident.
While New Jersey State Police have not disclosed the specific type of fumes to which the crew members were exposed, they have confirmed that the injuries sustained by the flight attendants are not considered “life-threatening.”
