A recent presidential decree, number PK-337, has officially transferred full control of Silk Avia to Uzbekistan Helicopters, a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Airways. This move aligns with Silk Avia’s “development strategy,” focusing on expanding its fleet of ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft.

Key points from the decree include:

  1. Ownership Transfer:
    • Uzbekistan Helicopters, a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Airways, now holds full control of Silk Avia.
    • Uzbekistan Airports JSC’s 100% shareholding in Silk Avia LLC has been transferred to the authorized capital of Uzbekistan Helicopters LLC.
  2. Fleet Expansion:
    • Three ATR72-600s, currently owned by Uzbekistan Airports, will be transferred to Silk Avia.
    • The number of ATR72-600s in Silk Avia’s fleet will be increased as part of the carrier’s strategy for effective organization and development.
  3. Responsibilities of Uzbekistan Helicopters:
    • Uzbekistan Helicopters is tasked with increasing the number of Silk’s domestic flights.
    • Launching new routes and expanding the overall fleet of Silk Avia is now under the responsibility of Uzbekistan Helicopters.

Silk Avia, established in September 2021, obtained its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) in April 2023, initiating scheduled flight operations shortly thereafter. In June, the airline committed to expanding its fleet, including two ATR42-600s and eight ATR72-600s. The carrier conducted its inaugural international flight to Tamchy, Kyrgyzstan, in August and plans to introduce a scheduled route from Samarkand to Turkistan, Kazakhstan, later this month.
