The 5 Best Restaurants in Orvieto, Italy
Orvieto is a city that offers not only stunning views and historical attractions, but also a delicious cuisine that reflects the traditions and flavors of Umbria. Whether you are looking for a cozy trattoria, a refined restaurant or a casual pizzeria, you will find plenty of options to satisfy your appetite and taste buds. Here are my personal recommendations for the 5 best restaurants in Orvieto, based on my experience and reviews from other travelers.
Orvieto is not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the palate. It is famous for its white wine, Orvieto Classico DOC, one of my favorites, which is made from local grapes such as Grechetto and Trebbiano. You can taste this wine in many wineries and restaurants in Orvieto, or join a wine tour that will take you to some of the best producers in the area. You can also enjoy other local specialties, such as truffles, wild boar, cheese and olive oil. Some of the dishes I recommend are umbrichelli (a type of thick spaghetti) with truffle sauce, porchetta (roasted pork) sandwich and ciambelline al vino (wine cookies).
Il Labirinto di Adriano
Il Labirinto di Adriano is a hidden gem in the heart of Orvieto, located in a quiet alley near the cathedral. The restaurant is run by Adriano, a friendly and passionate chef who creates dishes with fresh and seasonal ingredients, inspired by the local and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu changes daily, but you can always expect to find homemade pasta, meat, fish and vegetarian options, as well as desserts and cheese. Some of the dishes I enjoyed were the gnocchi with truffle sauce, the lamb chops with rosemary and the tiramisu. The wine list is also excellent, featuring local and regional labels. The restaurant is small and cozy, with a warm and elegant atmosphere. The service is attentive and professional, and Adriano himself often comes to chat with the guests and explain his creations. The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food.

Capitano del Popolo
Capitano del Popolo is a modern and stylish restaurant located in Piazza del Popolo, one of the main squares of Orvieto. The restaurant takes its name from the medieval magistrate who ruled the city in the 13th century, and whose palace is now part of the restaurant. The cuisine is contemporary and creative, with a focus on local products and flavors. The menu offers a variety of dishes, from appetizers to desserts, that can be ordered à la carte or as part of tasting menus. Some of the dishes I tried were the crispy egg with black truffle, the ravioli with ricotta and spinach in butter and sage sauce, and the chocolate cake with vanilla cream. The presentation was impeccable, and the taste was even better. The wine list was also impressive, with a selection of more than 300 labels from Italy and abroad. The service was courteous and efficient, and the ambiance was lively and cozy. The prices were fair for the quality and innovation of food.
