LuxuryHotel.com analyzed cities around the country to find the top ten cheapest destinations for luxury travel, where 5-star hotels can be had for a fraction of the nation’s average. Durham, North Carolina
Arlington, Texas
Arlington, Texas is home to massive attractions like the Texas Rangers, two Six Flags parks and plenty of golf courses, making this city a great place for sports enthusiasts and active travelers. It’s also the second cheapest city in the nation for 5-star hotels, with the average price of a one-night stay at a 5-star hotel only $163, down 68 percent from the national average.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
One of the twin cities, Minneapolis is home to an awesome parks and recreation system, with ample outdoor activities like hiking, biking and kayaking available. Like many large cities, it’s also home to a diverse foodie scene, incredible arts and culture scene, as well as great nightlife. It’s also the third cheapest city in the nation for 5-star hotels! An average 5-star nightly rate is $188, which is 63 percent below the national average.
Greensboro, North Carolina
The city of Greensboro, North Carolina is home to the Greensboro Science Center, ample military history landmarks, ample outdoor parks and gardens and so much more, this city is also the fourth cheapest in the nation for 5-star hotels. The average nightly rate of a 5-star hotel in Greensboro is $200, down 60 percent from the national average.
Reno, Nevada
Perhaps one of the most surprising cities on this list, Reno, Nevada is considered the fifth cheapest destinations for 5-star hotels in the nation. Home to an ample nightlife and incredible outdoor activities like hiking around Lake Tahoe or skiing and snowboarding, this big little city also comes with a cheap price tag: the average nightly rate at a 5-star hotel in Reno is only $205, down 59 percent from the national average.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The second-largest city in Wisconsin and the home of the NBA Champions, the Bucks, Milwaukee is a city on the rise. With a gorgeous waterfront, ample access to outdoor activities and unique food, arts and nightlife scenes, it’s also the sixth cheapest city in the nation for 5-star hotels. The average nightly rate of Milwaukee’s 5-star hotels is $223, down 56 percent from the national average.
San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio, Texas is one of the most charming cities in the state, home to its iconic riverfront and beautiful Spanish architecture. With historic sites, outdoor adventures and great nightlife and food, this city is a great destination for anyone looking to experience a beautiful city. It’s also the seventh cheapest destination in the nation for 5-star hotels, which can be had for $257 a night, down 49 percent from the national average.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Another surprising city on this list, the extremely popular foodie, music and nightlife destination of New Orleans takes eighth place on this list. 5-star hotels can be had in this historic city for about $271 a night; while that may seem pricey, it’s still 46 percent lower than the national average.
Louisville, Kentucky
The city of Louisville, Kentucky, home to some of the state’s most famous bourbon distilleries, baseball landmarks and the Kentucky Derby, places in ninth on this list. The average nightly rate for a 5-star hotel in Louisville is $280, a decrease of 44 percent from the national average.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Perhaps the most surprising city on this is the tenth place destination, Las Vegas, Nevada. The entertainment capital of the country, the average nightly rate at one of its glitzy 5-star hotels is around $284, down 40 percent from the national average.
