Tobago’s Comfort Inn and Suites has recently achieved Green Key certification, marking a significant milestone in the Caribbean island’s commitment to environmental sustainability, according to the Tobago Tourism Agency Ltd (TTAL). This achievement adds to the growing list of Tobago properties that prioritize eco-friendly practices.

The Green Key certification is a globally recognized eco-label that highlights excellence in environmental responsibility within the tourism sector. It is a voluntary program that assesses various aspects of a hotel’s operations, including environmental management, energy and water conservation, waste management, and overall sustainability practices. Over 4,400 establishments in more than 60 countries have received Green Key certification, underscoring its international significance.

Willard Harris, director of Green T&T, noted that the Comfort Inn and Suites’ certification reflects the increasing focus on sustainable tourism practices. “This achievement aligns with the positive shift towards responsible travel and underscores the growing emphasis on eco-friendly initiatives in the tourism sector.”

The Comfort Inn and Suites joins seven other Tobago properties that have also earned Green Key status, including Castara Retreats, Hibiscus Heights, Adventure Eco Villas, Bananaquit Vacations, House of Grace, Tropical Apartments, and Shepherds Inn. Green T&T, in partnership with TTAL, supports these efforts through initiatives focused on recycling, energy conservation, and sourcing from local farmers. Wendell Walker, TTAL’s director of product development, emphasized that these initiatives foster a culture of sustainability among guests, staff, and suppliers, reinforcing the island’s commitment to responsible tourism practices.
