Travel Advisors Face Flight Disruption Challenges Amidst Growing Demand
Travel advisors are witnessing a surge in demand for their services as eager travelers seek their expertise following the pandemic. However, these advisors also grapple with significant challenges due to flight cancellations and delays, which emerge as their primary concern, according to a recent survey conducted by the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA).
The survey findings highlight the current landscape for travel advisors. Approximately 27% reported an influx of first-time customers, with over half of respondents indicating that their clients are willing to pay for their specialized knowledge. Encouragingly, 83% of travel advisors expressed optimism about the future, anticipating either growth or stability in their businesses over the next 12 months.
Nevertheless, the survey revealed that flight disruptions pose a significant obstacle for travel advisors. A staggering 87% identified flight cancellations and delays as their foremost concern, followed by changing travel restrictions (77%) and testing/vaccination requirements (75%).
Flight disruptions can stem from various factors, including inclement weather, staffing shortages, maintenance issues, and COVID-19 outbreaks. These disruptions adversely affect travelers’ plans and experiences, and consequently impact the reputation and income of travel advisors.
Recognizing the crucial role travel advisors play, ASTA emphasized their vital contribution in guiding travelers through the ever-evolving travel landscape. With their wealth of knowledge and expertise, travel advisors provide invaluable information, advice, and support before, during, and after trips.
The survey was based on responses from 1,000 ASTA members in August 2021, shedding light on the current challenges faced by travel advisors amidst the growing demand for their services.
