Trinity College Dublin Unveils the New Book of Kells Experience: A Journey Through History

Trinity College Dublin, renowned for its historic Long Room and the iconic Book of Kells, has launched a groundbreaking, immersive experience called “The Book of Kells Experience.” This innovative attraction, housed in a dedicated pavilion within the university’s grounds, offers visitors an unparalleled journey into the heart of the 9th-century manuscript and other treasured works from the Old Library’s collection.

Open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the Book of Kells Experience welcomes visitors with 360-degree digital displays, enveloping them in a world of stories, sounds, and visuals. The experience is affordably priced, with early-bird adult tickets at €21.50 and children’s tickets at €12.00, along with group pricing options.

The journey of the Book of Kells, from its origins in Iona, Scotland, around 800 AD to its present location in Dublin, is vividly brought to life, spanning over 1,200 years of history. The experience also features several other significant manuscripts and books from the Old Library, including the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic.

In a unique interactive element, visitors will encounter sculptures of historical figures such as Ada Lovelace, Jonathan Swift, Rosalind Franklin, and William Shakespeare, and witness the evolution of the famous Long Room from 1732 to 2024. This immersive experience forms part of the Old Library Redevelopment Project, which aims to conserve and safeguard the library’s collections for future generations. Proceeds from ticket sales contribute to this vital conservation effort.
